Assisting Chaplains
Prison Chaplains are at the centre of religious life in Canadian prisons. They are the front line labourers who are there to care for the spiritual needs and interests of inmates and counsel and encourage them during the particularly difficult times of prison life. There are several ways that we try to compliment and encourage their ministry:
Free Bibles
Chaplains have many opportunities to give away Bibles to inmates. Cornerstone assists them in this by providing paperback Bibles free of charge when requested.
Chaplains also try to maintain a good number of hard-cover Bibles for chapel use. Cornerstone helps by providing hard-cover Bibles free of charge for this purpose when requested.
At times Chaplains receive requests from inmates for Bibles in other languages than English. We are happy to help out by securing these for them and we can usually provide them free of charge as well.
"Getting Started" Packages
Chaplains enjoy having free ministry resources available to give to inmates or refer them to. Cornerstone is one among several Canadian ministries that offer free Bible correspondence courses to Canadian inmates. When a Chaplain believes that an inmate will enjoy such a course, they will offer the various ones that are available.
To assist Chaplains in this we provide them with “Getting Started” packages which include introductory material to our ministry as well as the first lessons of our first course. When an inmate receives this package they can immediately begin their Bible study.
At times Chaplains will decide to simply place the packages in the chapel area for inmates to pick up.
Free Inspirational Calendars
Cornerstone provides prison Chaplains with several hundred copies of our Inspirational Calendars free of charge.
Prison Chaplains are eager to receive their annual shipments to satisfy the many inquiries of inmates asking if the Cornerstone calendars have arrived yet. We are glad to provide Chaplains with this Inspirational tool for them to distribute to inmates around Christmas time each year.
Special Orders
At times Chaplains receive requests from inmates for items that we can help them locate and/or supply. Usually, these are orders for specific Bibles or Christian books desired by inmates.
